How to buy Used Books on the Internet

Used (secondhand) books can be bought from the Amazon website.

Type the following address in your Internet Browse (usually Windows Internet Explorer):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/

If you are new to Amazon please do read through the New Users Guide which is found off Help/Ordering…or just click on this address:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=492858

Once you know what Amazon is all about it is time to create an Account for yourself.  Help on how to do this is found off Help/Ordering/New Visitor’s Guide/How to Create an Account

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/026-5814810-4834051?ie=UTF8&nodeId=3793261

Once you have a Username and Password, you can log in and start using the Search facility for Book Titles, Authors etc.

When you have found a book you wish to purchase, as for example one of our books ‘White Ghost Girls’ by Alice Greenway, you may find there are several different editions.  Have a look at the one which has Used/and New underlined (linked) and click on this ‘link’.  The Used/and New link will usually say how many there are, as well as from what price e.g.  ‘62 Used/and New from £0.29’.

Clicking on this Used/and New link takes you to ‘Amazon Marketplace’.  New and Used books will be listed.  Go to the Used ‘tab’ at the top page of the list, and click on this link.  This will take you to another list where you will usually find quite a number of copies.

The trick is to select the cheapest book, from the Seller who has the highest percentage rating for the most number of transactions, and most importantly, who can deliver quickly e.g. a Seller from the UK will probably do overnight delivery.  To select a copy click the ‘Add to Basket’ button.

When you have bought all the books you want, click the ‘Proceed to Checkout’ button and continue your transaction, as you would for a new book from Amazon.

You can trace what is happening to your Order from ‘My Account’ – ‘Where is My Stuff’.  With transactions of 2nd handbooks from Amazon Marketplace you also get notified by email of the status of your delivery, just as Amazon does for new books.

Once you have your book in hand and are happy with its condition, please do leave feedback on the order, as this keeps the Seller’s honest!!
